Updated: September 21, 2012 12:02PM
The Shedd Aquarium
recently welcomed a
Pacific White-sided dolphin to its Chicago family. Now it is time to give him a name.
Starting Monday, you will be able to help the Shedd Aquarium name its new dolphin calf by voting in the “Name the Baby Dolphin” contest co-sponsored by NBC-Ch. 5 and the Chicago Sun-Times.
Voters (one vote per day per IP address) will get to choose from five names (see below), all based on the language of the Tlingit, indigenous people in coastal Southeast Alaska and western Canada where Pacific White-sided dolphins are found.
Each name will also be adopted by a local school.
Vote for your favorite name:
Kisaani (kihs-AH-nee); translation: boy
Kusook (COO-sook); translation: play
Atshi (AHT-shee); translation: music or singing
Sagu (SAH-goo); translation: joy
Kann (kahn); translation: dolphin
The contest runs through Oct. 12. To cast your vote, visit http://bit.ly/Rs9tbY
