An open letter to Hugh Grant: It’s been reported that you turned down an offer to replace Charlie Sheen on “Two and a Half Men.” Maybe you prefer to spend your time playing snooker, or you’re busy researching “Music and Lyrics 2.” Understandable.
But we, the American viewing public, didn’t know how close we came to having you in high definition on a weekly basis — until it was too late. And frankly, we’re crushed.
Walking away from this deal was a mistake, Mr. Grant, and I’ll tell you why: Because we would have watched that show. We would have watched that show until it hurts.
Ashton Kutcher is a fine young man, but you — you could have redeemed the sitcom with just one rakish smile. Chuck Lorre could have gotten a season’s worth of jokes out of your middle name (Mungo) alone.
All we ask is that, in the future, we be consulted on a decision of this magnitude. And don’t give up on network TV just yet. We hear they’re looking for a new manager on “The Office.”
