‘SHEDDING FOR THE WEDDING’ ★★½

The traditional wedding of today means something borrowed, something blue, something old and a battery of reality-show cameras to document the drama.
At this point, it’s far easier to find a reality show than a groom. You can choose from “Say Yes to the Dress,” “Bridezillas,” “Platinum Weddings,” “My Big Redneck Wedding” and so on.
Tonight you can add “Shedding for the Wedding” to the list. It’s exactly what you think it is: the love child of “The Biggest Loser” and “A Wedding Story.” Nine couples try to lose weight and win their dream weddings, with elimination challenges called “Till Death Do Us Part.” I will say this — if your relationship can survive racing with a four-tiered wedding cake while wearing matching warmup outfits, it should be a pretty successful marriage.
I’m a fan of red-headed host Sara Rue, who starred in the sitcom “Less Than Perfect.” Since then, she’s lost weight as a Jenny Craig spokeswoman and looks disturbingly ... perfect.
There’s nothing terribly original about the “Shedding,” although it’s a hoot to hear about the couples’ theme weddings. The “eco-friendly” couple will be using biodegradable bridesmaids’ dresses, while another couple is going with a “Greek Week” theme that includes a monogrammed beer-pong table.
“It keeps it classy,” explains the bride-to-be.
