It was a meeting of the superstars at lunchtime Wednesday as Oprah Winfrey sat down with Justin Bieber at Ralph Lauren’s RL restaurant for an interview that will air Nov. 25 on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” on her OWN network.

According to the popular eatery’s general manager Rich Varnes, “more than 100 very polite, adoring fans” of the singer clustered outside RL as Bieber chatted with Winfrey and both happily munched on a plate of French fries. The famous duo was served by veteran RL waiter Scott McLellan — who got a nice shout-out on camera from Winfrey, who called him “my favorite waiter at my favorite restaurant!”

Instead of sitting at her usual corner booth, Winfrey interviewed Bieber in the restaurant’s entrance lounge — in front of the fireplace, whose roaring flames certainly weren’t needed on the unseasonably warm day.

† Bieber surprised fans by going out on RL’s front patio and serenading them with one of his hits. Winfrey also went outside and clearly enjoyed taking it all in.

“Not surprisingly,” said Varnes, “every single one of the fans sang right along with him — knowing every single word.”

In addition to taping the interview at RL, Winfrey accompanied Bieber to the adjacent Ralph Lauren Polo store to do a bit of shopping. No word of what, if anything, was purchased.

The RL restaurant was closed for lunch from around 11:30 until past 2 p.m., just to accommodate the Winfrey-Bieber interview.

Bieber also made pals with the folks at nearby Giordano’s on Rush. After his Tuesday night concert at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, the team at the pizzeria chain’s Rush Street flagship restaurant made up both deep-dish and thin crust pies, even though it was past their late-night ordering deadline. A grateful Bieber quickly penned a thank-you note to the staff — which they, no doubt, will proudly frame.
