The week’s best premieres: ‘Mindy Project,’ ‘Elementary’ and more

Updated: October 25, 2012 6:17AM

Buckle up: It’s premiere week, when the bulk of the fall TV season’s new offerings roll out. A full DVR’s worth of popular favorites are back, too, from “Dancing With the Stars: All Stars” (7 p.m. Monday on WLS-Channel 7) and the 10th season of “NCIS” (7 p.m. Tuesday on WBBM-Channel 2) to “The Good Wife” (8 p.m. Sunday on WBBM-Channel 2). With so much happening this week, I’ll keep the list mostly focused on the best of the new series:

“Ben and Kate”: 7:30 p.m. on WFLD-Channel 32

Cute comedy about the yin-yang relationship of a kinda grown-up brother and sister, starring one very funny Nat Faxon.

“The Mindy Project”: 8:30 p.m. on WFLD-Channel 32

Mindy Kaling (“The Office”) is an unlucky in love, rom-com-obsessed doctor and living proof that Katherine Heigl movies are bad for your heart.

“Vegas”: 9 p.m. on WBBM-Channel 2

Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis (“The Shield”) go toe-to-toe — in cowboy boots and shiny black mobster shoes, respectively — in this ’60s-set procedural charting the rise of Sin City.

“Last Resort”: 7 p.m. on WLS-Channel 7

Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman sizzle in this tense tale of a nuclear submarine gone rogue.

“Elementary”: 9 p.m. on WBBM-Channel 2

A contemporary take on super sleuth Sherlock Holmes, set in New York City and featuring Lucy Liu as Watson. Joan Watson.

“Homeland”: 9 p.m. on Showtime

A former CIA agent (Claire Danes) and a turned U.S. Marine (Damian Lewis) begin their cat-and-mouse chase with a strong sophomore season opener.
