3 Chicago foodies go stove-to-stove on 'Top Chef Masters'

April 7, 2009

“Top Chef” just got supersized.

A spin-off of the popular cooking reality competition is scheduled to premiere June 10. It’s called “Top Chef Masters,” and instead of newbies hoping to broil their way through the foodie frontier, this version will feature 24 already world-renowned chefs vying for the “Top Chef” title.

Three well-known Chicago chefs are among the competitors:

  • Graham Elliot Bowles, of Graham Elliot Restaurant
  • Art Smith, of Table Fifty-Two
  • Rick Bayless, of Frontera Grill
  • Other competitors are: Wilo Benet, of Pikayo, San Juan, Puerto Rico; John Besh, of Restaurant August, New Orleans; Michael Chiarello, of Bottega Restaurant, Yountville, Calif.; Michael Cimarusti, of Providence, Los Angeles; Wylie Dufresne, of wd~50, New York; Elizabeth Falkner, of Orson, San Francisco; Hubert Keller, of Fleur de Lys, San Francisco; Christopher Lee, of Aureole, New York; Ludo Lefebvre, of Ludo Bites, Los Angeles; Anita Lo, of Annisa, New York; Tim Love , of the Lonesome Dove Western Bistro, Fort Worth, Texas; Rick Moonen, of Rick Moonen’s RM Seafood at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas; Nils Noren, of the French Culinary Institute, New York; Lachlan McKinnon Patterson, of Frasca Food & Wine, Boulder, Colo.; Cindy Pawlcyn, of Mustards Grill, Napa Valley, Calif.; Mark Peel, of Campanile, Los Angeles; Douglas Rodriguez, of Alma de Cuba, Philadelphia; Michael Schlow, of Radius Restaurant, Boston; Suzanne Tracht, of Jar, Los Angeles; Jonathan Waxman, of Barbuto, New York; Roy Yamaguchi, of Roy’s Restaurants, San Diego.

Winners of each elimination will receive money for the chef’s favorite charity. The one left standing as Top Chef Master gets $100,000 for charity.

If that’s not enough, guest stars and judges for the show will include Neil Patrick Harris, Zooey Deschanel, “Lost” writers and executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, “Flipping Out’s” Jeff Lewis, and for the first time, all past “Top Chef” winners will be together on one episode.

Now seating for the premiere, 9 p.m. June 10 on Bravo!
