“MEMPHIS” MAN: When the hit musical “Memphis” arrives in Chicago as part of a national touring production — running Nov. 22- Dec. 4 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre — there will be a familiar face onstage. Quentin Earl Darrington, who played Coalhouse Walker in the 2010 Drury Lane Oakbrook revival of “Ragtime” (and who received a Jeff Award for his portrayal) will play the role of Delray, the Africa-American owner of an underground rock ‘n’ roll bar in 1950s Memphis.
Also in the cast of the 2010 Tony Award-winning show will be Bryan Fenkart and Felicia Boswell (who “covered” for their roles on Broadway), Rhett George, Julie Johnson, Will Mann and William Parry. For information, visit www.BroadwayInChicago.com.
“SOUL CIRCUS”: Yes, another circus is headed to town. The UniverSoul Circus, described as an interactive mix of circus arts, theater and pop, R&B, Latin, hip-hop, jazz and gospel music, will play Sept. 21-Oct. 16 in Washington Park, 51st and Payne St. It will feature such acts as contortionist Rahel of Ethipia, China’s Modern Biker Girls and the Russian Swing Act acrobats. Tickets: $12-30. Call (800) 745-3000.
