What: Natural Gas, the Gift Theatre’s house improv team, offers a brand of comedy that it bills as “wild, randy and appropriately inappropriate.” The fun-loving troupe is celebrating its fifth anniversary by inviting a series of “special guest improvisers” to perform with its usual roster of comic artists throughout the month.
Insider’s take: “It [osting guest improvisers] gets some other people that know about us but haven’t really seen us as much more interested in us,” said artistic director Kyle Zornes. “And it brings a different crowd sometimes. We’re mostly a local Northwest Side audience. With this, it brings more improvisers from the city — younger and older. Normally, our attendance varies. We have a really big high school following, but we also have a lot of the Gift subscribers who come. And we get a lot of walk-in [audiences] anywhere from 15- to 73-years-old, which is neat, because they’ll all laugh at the same stuff a lot of times.”
Particulars: Joining Natural Gas for its next performance at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Gift Theatre, 4802 N. Milwaukee, are special guest improvisers TJ Jagodowski and David Pasquesi. Tickets are $5. (773) 283-7071 or thegifttheatre.org/natural-gas. —Kyle MacMillan
