What: For more than a year, UP Comedy Club has been offering a bite-size sampler of Chicago-style improvisational comedy on Monday evenings. The series, titled the Second City Improv All-Stars, manages to pack into one hour the three main styles of improv — scenic, long-form and short games. It features a rotating cast, with this week’s performance featuring Chelsea Devantez, Hans Holsen, Rachael Mason, Tim Ryder and Emily Walker.
Insider’s take: “Mondays are a really good night for the industry to come, like people who are involved in improvisation in the community,” said Mick Napier, who has directed more than 15 Second City productions, “and it’s just a nice alternative off night for Second City. It also fills some of the needs they were looking for in creating a lot of variety with the UP Comedy Club. It was kind of a welcome element among the other sketch comedy and stand-up offered there.”
Particulars: Monday’s installment of the Second City Improv All-Stars takes place at 8 p.m. at the UP Comedy Club on the third floor of Piper’s Alley, 230 W. North. Tickets are $16. 312-662-4562 or upcomedyclub.com.
