Kate Jablonski named Dance Chicago’s ‘choreographer of the year’

Kate Jablonski has received the 2012 Dance Chicago Choreographer of the Year Award, an honor presented under the auspices of Dance Chicago, Emergence Dance Theatre and the Cliff Dwellers Arts Foundation.
The director of Beyond Words Dance Company, Jablonski was singled out based on her three pieces — “Little Talks,” “Peace Train” and “Still Can’t Imagine” — presented during the 2012 Dance Chicago Festival.
In addition to Jablonski’s award, Dance Chicago also announced the 2012 Dance Chicago Outstanding Choreographer Awards for excellence in choreography presented during the festival, as follows:
— Body of Work (Nick Pupillo)
— New Voice (Victoria Lynn Bunch)
— New Voice (Monique Haley)
— Dance Crew (Boyz of Poison)
— Dance Slam (Bryant Ballet of the Chicago Multicultural Dance Center: The Bryant Ballet Youth Professional for Latin Ballet Fusion performance).
According to John Schmitz, artistic director and curator of the annual month-long Dance Chicago festival, “Since 2002, the Dance Chicago choreographer awards have been our commitment to developing excellence in Chicago choreography, recognizing dances of artistic quality and overall festival impact, and we our proud to honor Chicago’s outstanding choreography talent.”
