‘Kinky Boots’ cast, creative team announced; tickets on sale Aug. 3

The cast of the world premiere production of “Kinky Boots,” the Harvey Fierstein-Cyndi Lauper musical, was announced today.

The show, directed and choreographed by the previously announced Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell, will star Stark Sands (“Journey’s End,” “American Idiot”), and Billy Porter (“Angels in America,” “Smokey Joe’s Cafe”).

“Kinky Boots” will play the Bank of America Theatre (18 West Monroe) Oct. 2-Nov. 4 before heading to Broadway.

The musical (inspired by a true story and based on the 2005 comedy film) tells the tale of Charlie Price (Sands), forced to step in and save his family’s shoe factory in Northern England following the sudden death of his father. Help comes in the form of a drag queen named Lola (Porter). The duo revitalizes the failing business and transforms an entire community through the power of acceptance.

The design team inclues David Rockwell (scenic design), Gregg Barnes (costumes), Kenneth Posner (lighting) and musical supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Stephen Oremus (“The Book of Mormon,” “Wicked”).
