George and Martha officially have a New York address.
The much-acclaimed Steppenwolf Theatre production of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” will open on Broadway at the Booth Theatre on Oct. 13, exactly 50 years (to the date) after Edward Albee’s landmark play about two embattled married couples first opened in New York.
The Steppenwolf production, directed by Pam MacKinnon (a Tony Award nominee this year for best play winner “Clybourne Park”), initially opened in Chicago in 2010 and was subsequently staged at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.
As previously announced, its original cast — Tracy Letts as George, the failed academic; Amy Morton as Martha, his hard-drinking wife, and Carrie Coon and Madison Dirks as Honey and Nick, the new younger couple on campus — all will reprise their roles. Morton last appeared on Broadway in Letts’ Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning play “August: Osage County.”
Previews will begin Sept. 27.
