The Paramount Theatre in Aurora has enjoyed immense success so far with its newly initiated Broadway Subscription Series. But despite its 13,000 subscribers and solid to glowing reviews, it isn’t quite ready to make any leaps into outside-the-box programming.
Its second season will feature four of the most reliable musicals in the Broadway treasury, including: “Grease” (Sept. 12-30, 2012), the Jim Jacobs/Warren Casey show, staged by Michael Unger, a New York-based director of opera and musicals; “Annie” (Nov. 21-Dec. 20, 2012), the Thomas Meehan/Charles Strouse show directed by Rachel Rockwell (who this season demonstrated how brilliantly she can work with children in the Drury Lane Oakbrook revival of “The Sound of Music”); “The Music Man” (Jan. 16-Feb. 3, 2013), the Meredith Willson classic, also directed by Rockwell; and “Fiddler on the Roof” (Mar. 6-24, 2013), the Jerry Bock/Sheldon Harnick musical (with a book by Joseph Stein, based on the stories of Sholom Aleichem), to be directed by the Paramount’s artistic director, Jim Corti, who opened the theater last fall with a terrific revival of “My Fair Lady.”
Subscriptions start at $69.80 for four shows. Call (630) 896-6666 or visit www.ParamountAurora.com.
