Fight fallout: Wentz sued

SCHUBA'S | Man claims rocker, security beat him up after concert

May 1, 2008

A Chicago man who fans say was heckling Fall Out Boy during a private show last summer is suing bassist and Wilmette native Pete Wentz, claiming the rocker and his security detail beat him after the show.

Andy Kallas, 31, claims he suffered serious injuries after an attack at Schuba's Tavern, where about 200 people came to hear the popular rock band play at a June 2007 private party.

Many of those attending the show reported at the time that the victim of the beating had repeatedly hurled insults at the band -- specifically at Wentz and his relationship with singer and now-fiancee Ashlee Simpson.

Wentz said in a later interview that the heckler lunged at him as the band exited the stage of the club at 3159 N. Southport.

But Kallas claims the attack was unprovoked.

"I don't know if [Wentz] mistook [Kallas] for somebody else, but for whatever reason, he decides to clock Andy in the face," said Kallas' attorney, Jim Zouras. "[Wentz] then appeared to let his colleagues finish the job."

Kallas claims he was beaten "for several minutes" and "suffered serious injuries to his head, mouth and face," according to the complaint filed Wednesday in Cook County Circuit Court.

A statement issued from Wentz's camp countered: "This case is meritless. We looked into it, and the facts don't support his claims. We will vigorously defend this case in court."

Pictures of the mess partygoers say was left behind can still be found on the Internet, which was full of stories about the beating after it happened last year.

Kallas also said Wentz's security stopped him from leaving.

The four-count complaint seeks unspecified damages from Wentz, his security team and Schuba's.

Kallas did not return a call, nor did Schuba's owners.
