MALIBU, Calif. — Authorities say actor Francesco Quinn, the son of Academy Award winner Anthony Quinn, has died. He was 48.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. James Royal said Quinn was walking home from a store with his son when he collapsed Friday on the Malibu street where he lived.

One of Quinn’s most memorable roles was as a raspy-voiced soldier named Rhah in the Oscar-winning Vietnam War drama “Platoon.” He also appeared in the television shows “The Young and the Restless,” “JAG,” “24” and “The Shield.”

His agent, Arlene Thornton, told the Los Angeles Times that Quinn apparently died of a heart attack, but the cause of death wasn’t officially determined yet.

Quinn’s father won two Academy Awards and starred in “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Zorba the Greek.”
