Fresh off the U.K. premiere of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II,” actor Tom Felton, who plays bad boy Draco Malfoy in the film series, will make three area appearances.
Felton, who recently picked up his second Moon Man at the MTV Movie Awards for Best Villain, will be at Hollywood Blvd. in Woodridge on July 22 and 24, and at Hollywood Palms in Naperville on July 23. He will sign autographs and pose for photos for an hour before each showing of “Deathly Hallows.”
“We tried to get him last year. We’ve had the Phelps twins for three years,” said Jamie Martin, promotions manager for Hollywood Cinemas. “We’ve been pushing for Tom. We think he is a great character and a great actor. He is young, and his career is about to blow up.”
Felton’s character, Draco Malfoy, has been Harry Potter’s nemesis at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since before they set foot in the castle. In “Deathly Hallows,” Draco’s role is diminished but significant nonetheless.
Tickets for the movie screenings already are selling, Martin said. When they teased his appearance on the theater company’s Facebook page, they got more than 1,000 fans overnight.
“That’s huge for us. It shows how popular of a character he is and how excited people are,” she said.
Fans must purchase a movie ticket to see any film before they can get in line to see Felton. Tickets cost $8 for adults; $6 for people 12 and younger. A 3-D ticket is an extra $3.
“I saw a prescreening of it in 3-D, and I really did enjoy it,” she said. “I’m not a fan of 3-D, but it wasn’t too much. They are subtle effects.”
The cost for an autograph, which comes with a head shot, is $25. They hired Tinseltown Photos to take professional photos onsite, which the photographer prints out immediately, for an additional $25.
“If you like, you can bring in an item to be signed,” she said. “You could have him sign your special edition Blu-Ray copy of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ or figurine or a T-shirt. It’s fun to see what people bring.”
Felton has been cast in the upcoming “Planet of the Apes.”
Martin urges fans to purchase tickets in advance, because she expects the showings to sell out.
“This is a huge star, and for him to come to Naperville and Woodridge is a big deal,” she said.
Fans can buy tickets for the show they want to go to online. Felton will be available for an hour before each show. Check the website for show times.
