Girls just wanna see vampires

AURORA | 'Twilight' stars leave fans breathless

November 11, 2009

The vampires didn't take the blood of Aurora Christian High School junior Alyssa Sirek, just her breath.

"I'm pretty sure I stopped breathing there," said Sirek, 16, of Yorkville.

Sirek was among 500 people who got to meet Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz, who play the vampires Alice and Emmett Cullen in the "Twilight" series of movies, at Westfield Fox Valley mall Tuesday. The second installment, "New Moon," opens Nov. 20.

Sirek's friend, Shannon Norris, 17, of Yorkville, also reported health effects after meeting the vamps.

"I thought I was going to pass out there for five seconds," she said.

"They're even prettier in person," added friend Ashlyn Slamans, 16, of Sugar Grove.

Although only 500 people who had purchased special "New Moon" shirts last week got to meet the stars, hundreds more showed to see the spectacle, which included a performance by Anya Marina from the movie soundtrack.

"I'm so excited," said Haleigh Yerkes, 13, of Naperville. She said she would have preferred to meet actor Taylor Lautner, who plays the werewolf Jacob Black.

"Because he's pretty hot," Yerkes said to the giggles of friend Katja Ostojic, 14, of Naperville.
