Liz Phair to play 'Guyville' in its entirety
So, let’s see, Public Enemy will perform the entirety of its classic album “It Takes a nation of Millions to Hold Us Back” at this summer’s Pitchfork Music Festival. And the Lemonheads were just here playing “It’s a Shame About Ray,” both sides, in order. Now comes word that Chicago-born rocker Liz Phair will employ the same gimmick this summer to celebrate the 15-th-anniversary reissue of her classic album, “Exile in Guyville.”
Phair has announced one solo acoustic show playing “Guyville” — June 25 at New York City’s Hiro Ballroom — and shows are expected to be announced in Chicago and San Francisco.
“Guyville” will be re-released June 24 with a load of bonus material, including B-sides and previously unreleased demos. There’s also a bonus DVD featuring a mini-documentary about the indie-rock scene in Chicago’s Wicker Park, from which Phair emerged. In the footage, Phair herself interviews a host of Chicago talents — Ira Glass of NPR's “This American Life,” actor John Cusack, producer Steve Albini, and members of Urge Overkill — plus Gerard Cosloy and Chris Lombardi of Matador Records, which originally released the record.
