Lollapalooza Last Band Standing contest returns

May 15, 2008

Hundreds of bands will be performing at this year’s Lollapalooza concert festival — why not you?

Lollapalooza’s Last Band Standing contest — its annual online battle of the bands — is under way, and voting begins Monday. The multi-round, two-month campaign allows musicians to upload their performances to be judged by visitors to lollapalooza.com as well as panels that include Lollapalooza founder

Perry Farrell and members of The Recording Academy.

Last year, more than a thousand artists participated and 510,000 songs were streamed. Online voters cast 680,000 votes, resulting in wins — and Lollapalooza performance slots — for the Helicopters and Chicago’s own glam rockers the Shock Stars.

Competitors will be narrowed down to five finalists, who will convene at Chicago’s Double Door on July 30 to make their final stand.
