Ex-Wilco player Jay Bennett plans three new CDs

August 14, 2008

Jay Bennett’s Web site (jay-bennett.com) hasn’t been updated in what looks like years, but we’ve got some news about the ex-Wilco musician.

After leaving Chicago and relocating in Champaign-Urbana, Bennett and engineer Matt DeWine have opened a new recording studio there called Pieholden Suite Sound.

To trumpet the new digs, Bennett announced this week he’ll be releasing three new records in the next few months:

  • A fifth Bennett solo album called “Kicking at the Perfumed Air.”
  • A new disc by Bennett’s former band, Titanic Love Affair.
  • Finally, Bennett will record a six-song EP with longtime collaborator Edward Burch — a tribute to rockers Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds.
  • Of the Titatic Love Affair reunion, Bennett explained in his e-mailed announcement: “During the move, I came across some half-finished material by my previous band, Titanic Love Affair. Not only did this lead to reconnecting with ‘the original cast’ of TLA, but these songs left us wondering why they never made it on earlier albums. We're going to change that, as we've now finished a whole album's worth of new TLA songs.”

A preview of some of these songs can be heard on Bennett’s more current MySpace page (www.myspace.com/jaybennett), and the studio’s page there features photos and lists of all the available gear (www.myspace.com/pieholdenstudios).
