Andrew Bird to headline Obama benefit concert

February 13, 2008

Democrats certainly seem to inspire the best concerts. To wit: Acclaimed Chicago singer-songwriter Andrew Bird and veteran local band Dianogah are playing a benefit show Feb. 28 for presidential hopeful and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.

Doors open for the show at 7:30 p.m. at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia. Admission is a suggested donation of $100 or more. To RSVP and make a donation, see Obama's Web site or call (312) 819-2412.

All attendees will receive an exclusive, ultra-limited-edition hand-screened poster by local poster artist Kathleen Judge.

Bird is a year out from his seventh and latest release, "Armchair Apocrypha," recorded in Minneapolis with a band drawn from that scene. His spacious songs and sharp whistling should mix nicely with the often droning, frequently instrumental rock of Dianogah, which has a new CD slated for June release.
