Music snobs of Chicago, unite!
WBEZ’s “Sound Opinions” screens John Cusack’s Chicago love story “High Fidelity” Thursday night. The adapted Nick Hornby novel has Rob Gordon (Cusack) as a man on a mission to recast his romantic relationships as breakup therapy, while making his best effort to torpedo his current coupling with Laura (Iben Hjejle). Rob’s Top Five lists are hotly contested by Barry (Jack Black) and Dick (Todd Louiso), a forum perfect for candid discussion from tastemakers Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot prior to showtime.
Here are the five best “High Fidelity” songs for the trip to the Music Box:
1. “Walking on Sunshine,” Katrina & the Waves
2. “Tread Water,” De La Soul
3. “Suspect Device,” Stiff Little Fingers
4. “Baby Got Going,” Liz Phair
5. “Jesus Doesn’t Want Me for a Sunbeam,” Eugene Kelly
