A perennial visitor to Chicago these days, this bewildering Brit returns this time for two shows in one night. The first finds the former Soft Boy and occasional Egyptian, now 59, performing the entirety of his 1990 album “Eye” (a largely acoustic outing praised as a proper follow-up to his seminal ’84 album “I Often Dream of Trains”). The second show is all requests, so come armed with something completely daft to shout out (me, I’m holding out for the Swedish version of “Alright, Yeah”). THE SAMPLES
Now here’s a ’90s revival moment I can get behind. The Samples were a remarkably consistent act with a tight rhythm section, a jazzy bounce to their pop and Sean Kelly’s high, dead-ringer-for-Sting vocals. This reconstituted lineup features all newbies around Kelly, but expect quality musicianship. Beautiful Collision and Taggart Transcontinental open at 8 p.m. Oct. 12 at Double Door, 1572 N. ADAM ANT
Since you last marveled at Adam Ant’s war paint and three-cornered hats all over MTV, he’s drifted into acting, been arrested (twice) for bashing in various windows and doors, spent time in a mental institution and exorcised it all in an autobiography. Now he’s drifting back into music and allegedly working on a new album, which would be his first since 1995. Meanwhile, he’s standing and delivering on stage. ALANIS MORISSETTE
Would she play for you in a theater? Yes, she would. Canadian singer Alanis Morissette, who prescribed her “Jagged Little Pill” in the mid-’90s, has been prolific of late and showcasing a variety of new material on tour all summer. Her latest album, August’s “Havoc and Bright Lights,” earned mixed reviews — but, hey, she’s been performing Green Day’s “Basket Case” lately in tribute to Billie Joe Armstrong.
