Marillion
MARILLION
Something of a cult band on these shores (their only album to break the top 50 was “Misplaced Childhood” in 1985), Britain’s Marillion still can hold down two nights in America’s third-largest city, with many fans attending both shows. Boasting a fervent fan network that predates social media, Marillion is touring ahead of a new album due soon, “Sounds That Can’t Be Made.” Sun Domingo opens at 8 p.m. June 22-23 at Park West, 322 W. Armitage. Tickets: $50. Call (800) 514-ETIX; jamusa.com. — Thomas Conner
GREEN MUSIC FESTIVAL
The fourth annual mix of music and environmental awareness (booths, demos, vendors, crafts, chow) features another decent lineup on two outdoor stages. Dinosaur Jr. headline the main/north stage at 8 p.m. Saturday (they’re also indoors at 9 p.m. Friday at Subterranean, 2011 W. North, but sold out) preceded by Chicago’s Bailiff and others. At 8 p.m. Sunday is the superb Danish duo the Raveonettes (also at Subterranean at 9 p.m. Saturday, $18, subt.net). Music runs from 2:30-10 p.m. June 23-24 on Damen Ave. between North and Schiller. Admission: suggested donation of $5. greenmusicfestchicago.com. — TC
STRANGER DANGER FESTIVAL
Finally, a two-day music festival in Chicago that presents bands the way they were meant to be presented: indoors. Over the weekend, this new festival (organized by the folks in Strange Arrangement, playing both nights) spotlights 25 bands on two stages. Gathered from around the Midwest, the music includes DrFameus (Allen Aucoin of Disco Biscuits), Sexfist, Twin Cats, Ultraviolet Hippopotamus, Dopapod, Cosby Sweater, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey (one of my faves) and many more. Doors open at noon June 23-24 at the Abbey, 3420 W. Grace. Two-day passes: $30. Call (773) 478-4408; abbeypub.com.— TC
THE EARL OF OLD TOWN
Earl Pionke, local legend as owner of the Earl of Old Town folk music club, is 80 years old. That deserves a party and a concert. So a bunch of his old pals are coming together to do just that, including Bonnie Koloc, Michael Johnson, Eddie Holstein, Johnny Burns, Jim Post, Bryan Bowers, Mick Scott and many more. Music starts at 6 p.m. June 24 at FitzGerald’s, 6615 Roosevelt Rd. in Berwyn. Tickets inside the club are sold out; still available: $10 tickets in a tent with a 14-foot-high video screen of the show. Call (708) 788-2118; fitzgeraldsnightclub.com.— TC
