Aretha Franklin wants to be shown a little more R-E-S-P-E-C-T when judges for “American Idol” or “The Voice” are considered.
“I would love to be a judge on one of those shows,” Franklin said last week from her tour bus en route to New York.
“I don’t understand why singers like myself, Gladys [Knight], Natalie [Cole] and Patti [LaBelle] can’t be judges. We never get a call. I don’t understand it. I watch those shows from time to time. Some of the talent is very good. Some of it is fun. And some of it is really wild,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Queen of Soul is headed to Chicago: She will perform in the 17th Annual N’DIGO “Legend de Soul” event with the Impressionions at 6 p.m. June 30 at the Arie Crown Theatre. For $250 gala tickets (which includes a VIP reception, scholarship awards ceremony, concert and after-party) call (312) 822-0202; tickets also can be purchased through ndigo.com.
Concert-only tickets, $45, $75 and $90, can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
