ONE DIRECTION

Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson missed the crown on “X Factor,” Simon Cowell’s British version of “American Idol” talent show, but Simon thought their combined sound hit the spot, anyway. So he fused them into the latest squeal-worthy boy band, now touring its G-rated frenzy. This weekend is sold out but, hey, they’re already booked for two more shows here — in July 2013. At 7:30 p.m. June 2 at Allstate Arena, 6920 N. Mannheim Rd., Rosemont. Sold out. — Thomas Conner
‘SPACE INVASION: AN EPIC BENEFIT CONCERT’

Dancing aliens, singing face-huggers, sad stomach-bursters. The finer moments from Scooty & JoJo’s hilarious and ambitious rock musical mash-up “Alien Queen” (the “Alien” movies as told via the music of Queen) and the sci-fi burlesque of Battlestar Fantastica join forces for this show benefitting the producers’ own GoGo Legit campaign, which helps cover the expensive legal costs in securing rights for this kind of content. At 10 p.m. June 1 at Metro, 3730 N. Clark. Tickets: $20 advance, $25 day of, $40 VIP. Call (800) 514-ETIX; metrochicago.com. — TC

THE CULT

Singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy are back, charting the latest leg of this British band’s eclectic course through the harder side of rock and roll. Touring on the strength of a fine new album, “Choice of Weapon,” the glam-alt-goth-rockers started things off with a free concert early this spring at the South by Southwest music conference, featuring Matthew McConaughey briefly playing bongos. Awright, awright. Icarus Line open at 6:30 p.m. June 1 at the Congress Theater, 2135 N. Milwaukee. Tickets: $22. Call (773) 276-1235; congresschicago.com. — Thomas Conner ONE DIRECTION

SAUSAGEFEST

This second annual celebration of music and encased meats features a good lineup of local and touring bands, including the Lovehammers (Marty Casey’s outfit, filling in for the previously scheduled Lucky Boys Confusion after their guitarist recently passed away) and Treaty of Paris on June 2, and Chicago’s fine Company of Thieves and excellent Missouri country-rockers Ha Ha Tonka on June 3. It’s bound to be a sausagefest, in every sense of the term. Noon to 10 p.m. June 2-3 outside of Wrigley Field, on Sheffield between Addison and Waveland. Admission: $5 donation (Lake View Citizens’ Council). Visit chicagoevents.com. — TC
