Drama looks at violence, media in 1930s Chicago

The scandals, killings and betrayals surrounding the death of a Chicago reporter in the 1930s are examined in the drama Hurrah for the Next Who Dies, opening today at the Athenaeum Theatre Studio Three.

The play, written by Mark Mason, is about Chicago Tribune reporter Jake Lingle, who was gunned down on June 9, 1930.

The show runs through May 18. Admission is free, but reservations are recommended. The theater is at 2936 N. Southport. Call (312) 922-1999.
