It turns out Captain America isn’t made of Teflon.
“The weekend of opening, I was really nervous,” actor Chris Evans says about the superhero movie that changed his life. “It needed to be a hit. Who knows why it’s a hit? There’s no rhyme or reason why something works or not in this business.
“When I saw the first trailer for the film, I thought, ‘It’s not going to work,’ ” he says. “Now, people love it.”
Now, his nerves are rumbling again.
The “Captain America” star put down his red, white and blue shield to star in two diverse films opening Friday. He plays friend/neighbor/love interest to Anna Faris in the comedy “What’s Your Number?” And in an image shifter, he’s a lawyer and functioning drug addict in “Puncture.”
“He can be a vile and selfish guy with a million un-redeeming qualities,” Evans says. “My job was to make him a little likable.” The film revolves around a mom-and-pop law firm that takes on a case involving a nurse pricked by a contaminated needle.
“The role was a chance for me to show some layers,” Evans says.
He lightens up with Faris. “I’m the good guy who starts out being one of the losers,” he says. “But I get my act together.”
