Anna Faris had to stretch her imagination while delivering lines for “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.” Her character, Sam, now finds herself in a world of animals that are part food.
“Each time I’d go in to record,” she recalls, “I’d be told, ‘OK, Anna, you’re staring into the mouth of a taco-dile. Or you’re walking along and a shrimp-panzee comes out.’ That was when I wasn’t walking through a bog of maple syrup.”
Faris, 36, also stars on the new CBS sitcom “Mom” as a recovering alcoholic dealing with her teen daughter and judgmental mother.
Q. Tell us about “Cloudy 2.”
A. I’m back as Sam and I’m really proud of the movie and happy to be part of the second one. Kids and parents responded to the first film with so much affection and love. Kids are constantly coming up to me asking if their food will start to multiply.
Q. What appealed to you about “Mom”?
A. It’s really an emotionally rich and funny show. I play a single mom who is just out of rehab for alcoholism. I’m still in a very raw place and dealing with addiction issues, financial issues and my own teenager. I have a mother played by Allison Janney who had her own addiction issues, and they have a really complicated relationship.
Q. Wait, you have a teenage daughter in the show?
A. Allison and I have a running joke that we both had our babies on this show at age 9.
