Hosting 2010 Oscars will be a two-man job

November 4, 2009

Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin will host next year's Academy Awards, Oscar producers announced Tuesday, the first time the job will be shared in more than 20 years.

Martin hosted twice before, in 2000 and 2002. Baldwin is a first-timer but was an Oscar nominee in 2003 for "The Cooler."

In a statement, Oscar producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman called the two actors "the perfect pair." They co-star in the Meryl Streep film "It's Complicated," opening Christmas Day.

"I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin," Martin said in a statement.

In recent years, the Academy has relied on a single star to guide the show, from perennial favorites Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg to Hugh Jackman earlier this year.

The last time multiple hosts were used was in 1987, when Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn and Paul Hogan traded lines.

The Oscars will be presented March 7 in Los Angeles.
