Clint Eastwood’s son says ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ is ‘not cheesy’

Scott Eastwood didn’t inherit the trademark smirk of his father, Old Squinty Eyes.
But he did get his sense of humor. “Maybe we should tell people it’s a comedy,” he says his film “Texas Chainsaw 3D,” opening Thursday night.
Eastwood, 26, is the son of icon Clint and flight attendant Jacelyn Reeves. His credits include small roles in his father’s films including “Flags of Our Fathers,” “Gran Torino” and “Trouble with the Curve.”
“When I first heard about ‘Texas Chainsaw,’ I thought, ‘No way Jose,’ ” he says. “Then I read the script and it was much more story-driven than just a gore movie. I’m a fan of horror if it’s done well and not cheesy.”
Playing a local law enforcement type, he tangles with the murderous Leatherface. “The guy who plays him is 6-foot-six, and he’s running around with a giant, revving chainsaw,” Eastwood says, laughing. “The odds were not in my favor.”
Born in Carmel, Calif., he grew up in Hawaii and spent plenty of time watching his father work. “If I wasn’t in school, I was on his sets as a kid ... ” he says. “I had to earn my keep, which was good. It was quite an education. You don’t want to just be ‘the son.’ You want to be part of the team.”
