Christopher Plummer reprises his Tony Award-winning stage role as John Barrymore in a one-night-only broadcast of the show’s film version,“Barrymore,” at the Theatre and Interpretation Center (TIC) at Northwestern University. The screening takes place 7 p.m. Dec. 3, in the Ethel M. Barber Theater, 30 Arts Circle Drive, on Northwestern’s Evanston campus.

Immediately following, the behind-the-scenes documentary “Backstage with Barrymore,” featuring Helen Mirren, Julie Andrews and Zoe Caldwell, will be screened.

The 2011 film is based on the play by William Luce. In addition to his Broadway turn as the title character, Plummer toured with the show, including a stop in Chicago in 1997.

The play is set in 1942 (one month before his death), as legendary actor John Barrymore, by that point a desperate alocholic, arrives at an old theater to rehearse a possible rivival of his 1920 Broadway triumph in “Richard III,” while reminiscing about the highs and lows of his life and career. The drama also features John Plumpis in the role of Frank, the Prompter.

General admission tickets are $5-$16 and can be purchased the TIC box office by phone at (847) 491-7282 or online at www.tic.northwestern.edu.
