Kat Falls has joined the ranks of other novelists’ young adult/tween offerings.
Here’s a look at just how lucrative this genre has become:

“The Hunger Games”

Suzanne Collins’ young adult science fiction trilogy (“The Hunger Games,” “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay”) has sold more than 25 million copies and spawned two blockbuster films to date. Not to mention what it’s done for the sport of archery.

“Twilight” saga

Stephenie Meyer’s vampire-themed series (“Twilight,” “New Moon” “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn”) led to five blockbuster films (the fourth book was split into two films) and elevated vampirism to a whole new uber-chic level.

“Harry Potter”

J.K. Rowling’s seven-book series has gone on to become the best-selling literary franchise and highest-grossing film franchise in history. Period.

Veronica Roth’s trio of releases — “Divergent,” “Insurgent” and “Allegiant” — is so successful that a film version of “Divergent” is due out next year. Kat Falls lives in Evanston; Roth graduated from Nothwestern. Maybe it’s the water? —Compiled by Miriam Di Nunzio
