‘GREY’ DAY: E.L. James and her erotic trilogy finished 2012 sizzling hot. Having spent most of the summer at No. 1, “Fifty Shades of Grey” now moves from No. 7 to No. 5.

SPARKS PLUG: Leave it to heartthrobs Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough to revive book sales for Nicholas Sparks’ 2010 novel “Safe Haven.” A movie tie-in paperback, whose cover features the stars on a beach in a loving embrace, has been released in anticipation of the film’s Valentine’s Day opening, boosting the book from No. 59 to No. 4.

MORE MEYER: Stephenie Meyer’s “The Host,” her 2008 science-fiction novel, arrives on the big screen March 29. The movie, about an alien soul who takes up residence in the body of a young woman, stars Saoirse Ronan. Little, Brown will release a movie tie-in paperback edition of the book this week.
