While a lot of the expected names and film titles were among the nominations of the Screen Actors Guild Awards announced Wednesday (see list at right), Hollywood honchos were buzzing about a number of big snubs.

Considering the actors constitute the largest voting branch of the Motion Picture Academy, the SAG nods could have a big impact on the all-important Oscar race.

Among the major surprises was the lack of a SAG nomination for Ryan Gosling — widely praised for his performance in “Drive.” Ditto for his co-star Albert Brooks, whose rare dramatic role in “Drive” already has won him best supporting actor awards from the Boston, San Francisco and New York Online critics groups — and early talk about a possible Academy Award nomination.

† Hollywood insiders also are shaking their heads over the lack of nominations for the casts of Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse,” Martin Scorsese’s “Hugo,” David Fincher’s “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” and Stephen Daldry’s “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.”

Part of the problem — especially with the Fincher and Daldry movies — was the late release of DVD screeners for SAG voters and the scheduling of theater screenings so close to the deadline for filling out nomination ballots.

IS SHE OR ISN’T SHE? As usual, Janet Jackson is keeping extremely tight-lipped about her personal life, but there is a lot of whispering — by folks who should know — that the pop superstar and boyfriend Wissam Al Mana are either engaged or close to making that commitment.

“They are totally dedicated to each other. When you are in their presence, there is such a good feeling,” said a longtime Jackson friend. The singer and her billionaire beau have been dating seriously for the past two years.

THANK YOU, DAD! Apparently, after Jessica Simpson’s father, Joe, was unable to peddle an exclusive announcement about her pregnancy to any of the big celebrity magazines, he dreamed up another way to score big bucks: landing that reported $3 million deal with Weight Watchers for when Jessica works to shed her baby weight.

ABOUT THE KIDS: Marie Osmond, a co-founder of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, is slated to visit Children’s Memorial Hospital’s Brown Family Life Center in Lincoln Park at 10:30 a.m. Thursday — bringing a bit of holiday cheer to the kids and joining the “Jamming with Jim” session.

NO ‘IDOL’ THREAT: Now that Madonna has inked a new three-album deal with Universal Music Group’s Interscope division, don’t be surprised if the Material Mom shows up on “American Idol” this spring — either performing or being a star advisor to contestants.

After all, Interscope honcho Jimmy Iovine — who handles 50 Cent, Lady Gaga and Sean “Diddy” Combs — is the “Idol” mentor who works with the show’s finalists.

ON THE MEND: It was good to hear the news — released by E! Entertainment — that the network’s Giuliana Rancic, a part-time Chicagoan, successfully went through a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery in her fight against breast cancer.

SEEN ON THE SCENE: Ex-Bull Eddy Curry, now with the Miami Heat, was seen touring the Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy in the Loop. The NBA pro was there to discuss an animation project.
