Stephen Colbert coming to Chicago for Second City anniversary

November 3, 2009

Add another big name to next month’s 50th anniversary festivities at Second City: Stephen Colbert, the fake blowhard pundit of Comedy Central.

He’ll lend his talents to two Dec. 12 events at the Old Town comedy institution: a panel discussion on his show at 10 a.m., and one of the star-studded alumni revues at 7 p.m.

The revue cast — also including Jim Belushi, Steve Carell, Dan Castellaneta, Robert Klein, Jack McBrayer, Harold Ramis and George Wendt — will perform classic Second City scenes on the theater’s main and e.t.c. stages. Tickets are $125.

On the panel, he’ll be joined by “Colbert Report” executive producer Tom Purcell and writers Peter Grosz and Peter Gwinn, all Second City alumni. Tickets: $25.

The events are part of a three-day anniversary extravaganza that includes two Dec. 11 shows starring cast members from the iconic Canadian TV series “SCTV.”

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday (312-337-3992; www.secondcity.com).
