Richie fails DUI test
Other drivers say SUV was going wrong way
BURBANK, Calif. -- Nicole Richie was arrested early Monday for investigation of driving under the influence after her car was reported headed the wrong way on a freeway.
Richie, 25, star of the reality series "The Simple Life" and daughter of pop singer Lionel Richie, was arrested without incident at 3:45 a.m. after she failed a field sobriety test given by California Highway Patrol officers, CHP Officer Todd Workman said.
Motorists had placed 911 emergency calls around 2:30 a.m. about a car headed against traffic on the freeway, Workman said. Descriptions of the vehicle matched Richie's 2005 Mercedes SUV. When officers arrived, they found her car facing the right direction.
''She volunteered the information that she had smoked marijuana and taken Vicodin,'' the prescription painkiller, Workman said.
Bail was set at $15,000, but Richie was released on her own recognizance. A Feb. 7 arraignment was scheduled.
Richie told officers she weighed 85 pounds and was 5-foot-1, Workman said. AP
