Beer fans of the world, unite.

Since the rise of specialized breweries in Chicago in recent years, there’s newfound dedication to the craft.

Josh Deth, founder of Revolution Brewing, 2323 N. Milwaukee, believes consumers grew bored of mundane pale ales and were ready to embrace unique flavors and premium options. Deth said he chose the name Revolution Brewing as a reflection of the sentiments he was hearing from dispirited beer drinkers.

The craft beer revolution continues Friday and Saturday as the third annual Beer Hoptacular overtakes the Riverfront Theater . More than 50 breweries will attend, including local favorites like Revolution, Two Brothers and Half Acre, regional breweries such as Bell’s and Great Lakes Brewing Co., and national household names like Goose Island, Blue Moon and Sierra Nevada.

In addition to savory beer selections, food and music, the Hoptacular features classes for brew fans, such as a homebrewing demonstration and suggestions for beer and food pairings. In all, tipplers can sample 130 beers.

In honor of the celebration of all things hop and ale, Deth shared the five craft beers (besides his own) that satiate his palate.

1. Snow Weasel

“A hoppy porter from our friends at Three Floyds with strong similarities to our Rise American Stout. Had it the other day at heavy metal bar Lockdown, who has half priced pints on Thursday!”

2. Vallejo

“This is one of Half Acre’s draft-only IPA’s that they had on tap for the grand opening of their new tap room. I like hoppy beers and they know to make ’em.”

3. Angry Birds

“This Belgian-style Rye IPA is my favorite of the Belgo-American genre that Haymarket Brewing has pioneered. A gold medal beer at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival.”

4. Dosvidanya Imperial Stout

“A bourbon barrel aged stout that was the crowd favorite at last year’s Beer Hoptacular from the Destihl brewpub down in Normal. Not regularly available in Chicago (yet) so try it while you can.”

5. Bourbon County Stout

“Anheuser-Busch InBev has moved production of most Goose Island beers out of state, but they still make this amazing beer in Chicago and now they make a lot more of it to send across the country.”
