While Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were the ones tying the knot at a posh resort overlooking the Adriatic Sea in the Southern Italian town of Fasano, behind the scenes, Biel’s new mother-in-law reportedly was the one truly running the show.

A source close to the actress said Monday, “As far as Jessica was concerned, she would have been just as happy to have a very small wedding with only a handful of friends and close family members present.” But Timberlake’s mom, Lynn Harless, wanted a nice, splashy bash for her beloved boy.

Biel — who had split with Timberlake before they reunited and got engaged earlier this year — apparently has come to understand “that Lynn is a very powerful factor in Justin’s life and, if she wants to have a smooth marriage, she has to have Lynn in her corner. … A big part of that is letting Lynn have her way.”

Harless is not only co-manager of Timberlake’s career, she also runs his finances, his media company and his charitable foundation.

† That said, Biel did manage to keep the guest list to about 80 — including Andy Samberg, rapper Timbaland and funnyman Jimmy Fallon. The actress also decided to go her own way regarding her wedding gown — picking a pink dress reportedly created by Italian designer Giambattista Valli, who also made Biel’s bridesmaids’ gowns as well.

Timberlake himself was said to be outfitted in a wedding suit made just for him by designer and filmmaker Tom Ford.

GAGA FOR GROCERIES: Fans of Lady Gaga quietly watched as the superstar went shopping at the Mariano’s Fresh Market in Lake Shore East the other day. Reportedly in town to visit boyfriend Taylor Kinney — here filming “Chicago Fire” — and staying at the nearby Aqua building, Gaga did some serious grocery gathering, spending $465 on a ton of gourmet goodies, including a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, veal scallopini, Italian sausage, cheddar brats, cheeses, donuts, hummus, coconut water, seven packages of sushi, Italian wine, beer, Patron tequila and a rottiserie chicken.

Store staffers were amused as Gaga instinctively did a little salsa dance while shopping in the Hispanic foods section.

IMPORTANT BENCHMARKS: To celebrate its 25th anniversary of doing great work, Lookingglass Theatre will present Comedy Central’s hilarious Stephen Colbert with its Civic Engagement Award at the theater company’s annual “Gglassquerade” gala March 2 at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Kudos to the tenacious Sherren Leigh, the founder and publisher of Today’s Chicago Woman, who is toasting the 30th anniversary of her magazine with a Halloween fund-raiser at the Chicago Cultural Center on Oct. 30 — benefitting the TCW Foundation, helping fund 30 area charities assisting women and children.

SEEN ON THE SCENE: Making the scene at Gibsons the other night was comedian and actor Denis Leary, who did a double-take as he was leaving — spying Tom Dreesen and hustling over to catch up. … Yes, that was Brit singer Mika having dinner with a group of friends at Nellcote. … WLS-Channel 7’s Linda Yu was spotted dining at Rosebud on Rush. … New parents Giuliana and Bill Rancic seen having a “date night” at Joe’s Stone Crab, as were Bulls great Scottie Pippen and new Bulls center Nazr Mohammed.
