On “Modern Family,” Sofia Vergara’s character is always the center of hilarious drama with a hugely comedic slant.
The Colombian beauty’s love life is also pretty dramatic these days — but it’s doubtful Vergara finds much of it very humorous.
Shortly after the actress and millionaire Nick Loeb quietly got back together — after a monthlong “hiatus” — Vergara is facing ugly headlines in the National Enquirer about orgies with hookers, reportedly hosted by Loeb.
According to a source close to Vergara, Loeb has told his lady love that the story is hugely exaggerated and also is about something that occurred long before he knew Vergara. No word on how the actress is taking it all.
Be that as it may, I’m also hearing Vergara’s son Monolo, 19, has cooled towards Loeb in light of all the negative press. Previously, there were reports Monolo looked up to Loeb as something of a surrogate dad.
DEPP DETACHED: After many months of speculation, Johnny Depp confirmed that he and his significant other, French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis, have split after a 14-year relationship. The couple are the parents of two children, and Depp’s rep issued a statement claiming the duo “have amicably separated.” It’s been more than a year since the two have appeared together in public.
This breakup will only fuel additional rumors about the reported affair Depp has been having with his “The Rum Diaries” co-star Amber Heard. A further complication to all this is Heard’s recent admission that she is bisexual and her connection with Hawaiian photographer Tasya van Ree.
† Depp long has dodged questions about Paradis, though he did deny the couple had ended their relationship as recently as the London premiere of his latest film, “Dark Shadows,” saying, “The rumors are not true. … I can’t say enough about it not being over.”
NO BABY ON BOARD: Friends of George Clooney are laughing off the story that his girlfriend, Stacy Keibler, is pregnant (which she has denied already). Since Clooney has said fatherhood is not in his future, it’s long been presumed he made that possibility totally unlikely.
Snip, snip — if you get my drift.
† Speaking of Clooney, the Oscar winner has signed on as a producer of the much-anticipated big-screen version of Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts’ “August: Osage County,” the Tony Award-winning play that started its journey at Steppenwolf Theatre here. The all-star cast for the John Wells-directed film includes Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. Other producers include ex-Chicagoan and former Woody Allen mainstay Jean Doumanian and Our Town’s Jam Theatricals prez Steve Traxler.
MARRYING MAN: As predicted, Bobby Brown did marry his fiancee and baby mama Alicia Etheridge in Hawaii on Monday — and Bobbi Kristina, his daughter with Whitney Houston, did not attend.
† Meanwhile, the AP reports Whitney’s mom, Cissy Houston, is expected to perform a tribute to her late daughter — joined by a group of unnamed female singers — at the BET Awards July 1 in Los Angeles.
LAUGHS GUARANTEED: After he showcased his comedic talents on “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock,” it’s not surprising Jon Hamm has been tapped to play Larry David’s nemesis in an improv film the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star plans to shoot this fall. Reportedly, Hamm’s character will be as neurotic as what we’ve come to expect from David on “Curb.”
