As New York authorities continue to investigate the wild brawl early Thursday between the entourages of Chris Brown and Drake, sources say it was a comment about Rihanna (made by a member of Drake’s posse) that started the fists — and bottles — flying.
Brown, of course, reportedly has made a quiet romantic reconnection with Rihanna, long a friend and collaborator of Drake. The two reportedly had a fling after Brown’s attack on the superstar beauty in 2009. In last week’s mad scuffling, a female New Zealand tourist suffered a bad cut on her head and now is said to be inundated with attorneys offering to represent her in a lawsuit — against both rappers and W.i.P., the club where the violent altercation took place. Brown’s chin was cut. New York authorities have used the fight as an excuse to shutter W.i.P., already targeted for various violations of tavern ordinances.
After Velo singled out Dempsey’s phenomenal dedication to her husband, he appeared to end a surprisingly short homily, exited the pulpit and walked back toward the altar.
The popular priest then pivoted and told the crowd, “You didn’t think that was all I was going to say, did you? That would have really upset Phil Corboy!” The crowd roared with laughter before Velo went on to beautifully capture the essence of the amazing attorney and civic leader who touched so many people’s lives.
“That was just an excuse,” said the source. “She could easily have adjusted the taping schedule if she wanted to. She didn’t want to go. … Their estrangement is only getting more intense.”
NOT JUST LILO: The long hours — often 20 per day — on the set of Lifetime’s “Liz & Dick” haven’t just worn out star Lindsay Lohan. Two crew members also needed medical attention this weekend, suffering from “severe dehydration and exhaustion.”
THIS WILL BE GOOD! Current and former members of one of the biggest NFL rivalries — the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers — will face off Monday in the first “Rivalry Cup” golf event at Medinah Country Club. Among those expected to hit the links to both boost the upcoming Ryder Cup at Medinah and raise funds for Bears and Packers charities are Kevin Butler, Richard Dent, Robbie Gould, Patrick Mannelley, James “Big Cat” Williams, Lynn Dickey, John Kuhn and Mason Crosby.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Joe’s Stone Crab continues to be a dining magnet for Our Town’s sporting crowd with weekend sightings including the Red Sox’s Kevin Youkilis, the Cubs’ Darwin Barney and the Bears’ Matt Forte.
