Want tickets to the Taste of Chicago evening concerts and celebrity chef events? You’ll be getting them from Groupon, the exclusive ticket seller of the events.

“We found Groupon offered an innovative system for reaching and servicing patrons,” said Michelle T. Boone, commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Social Events.

Tickets guarantee you a seat, but the seating will be on a “first come, first served” basis.

Groupon will take a 5 percent commission on each ticket, and credit card fees will take 3 percent. The commission and fees are included in the ticket prices: $25 for concerts and $40 for the celebrity chef du jour events, which are new to Taste.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at

Chicago public libraries are being given instructions on how to help patrons who don’t have their own computers but want to buy event tickets.

This will be the first year concertgoers will have to pay a fee to attend the previously free concert. Those who are strapped for cash have no need to worry though, as lawn seats will still be free.

The celebrity chef du jour meals will serve three courses prepared by a celebrity chef and served by Washburne Culinary Institute students. Celebrity chefs include Carlos Gaytan, Tony Mantuano, Graham Elliot, Stephanie Izard, and Jimmy Bannos Sr.
