As surprising as it seemed initially, the fast-moving romance between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian is being called “the real deal” by people who should know — longtime friends and associates of the Chicago-reared music superstar and the reality TV queen.
Now that they both have put their Los Angeles homes on the market, the buzzing about the duo has become a lot louder, but I’ve learned the new couple is simply looking to possibly rent a home together — “to see how things develop,” said a longtime Kardashian insider.
One funny twist: L.A. real estate sources say the fashion-conscious twosome are only looking at houses that have huge closets — to accommodate both stars’ enormous wardrobes of designer duds.
STAR POWER: Director and writer Alexander Payne (“The Descendants,” “Sideways”) will be in Our Town for two consecutive weekends this month. The Oscar winner will be here June 16 to receive the Paradigm Award at the PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation gala at the Hilton Chicago and Merle Reskin Theatre — a major fund-raiser for Chicago’s Greek-American community. Payne — born Alexander Constantine Papadopoulos — then will be on hand for the kickoff of the Greek Film Fest Chicago on the rooftop of the National Hellenic Museum on Halsted Street, the afternoon of June 23.Later that day, Payne will be at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel for the Gene Siskel Film Center’s “An Evening With
Reese Witherspoon,” joining a Q&A with the Academy Award-winning actress who was propelled to stardom, thanks to Payne’s “Election,” produced by Chicago’s own Albert Berger.
† Speaking of stars, two of Chicago’s biggest arts philanthropists — Stanley Freehling and his late wife, Joan — have been honored with a star on Goodman Theatre’s “Walkway of Stars.” Stan serves as Goodman’s founding chairman and life trustee, and Joan was a founding member of the theater’s women’s board.
