We’ve seen Justin Bieber’s temper flare up before — especially when overwhelmed by in-your-face paparazzi — but the teen superstar’s team thought he had come to realize how important it is to avoid clashing with photographers, no matter how intrusive they get.
Unfortunately, the latest incident — with Bieber allegedly getting physical with an obnoxious shutterbug who supposedly blocked the entertainer and girlfriend Selena Gomez’s access to Bieber’s car — now has drawn police attention.
The young lovers had gone to a mall in Calabasas, Calif., to see a movie Sunday, and when they left, they were surrounded by a number of paparazzi. One in particular did not move when Bieber attempted to get in his vehicle and, in the ensuing altercation, the photographer claimed he suffered an injury that caused him chest pains. He was examined at a hospital and released.
While Bieber was being investigated Monday for possible misdemeanor battery charges after the unnamed paparazzo filed a formal complaint, other celebrity chasers at the scene tell me the complainant was definitely in the wrong.
“He absolutely stepped over the line,” said a veteran paparazzo who witnessed the mini-brawl. “He not only blocked Justin from the car but appeared to say something ugly — just to make the kid lose his temper.”
Another photographer confirmed that Gomez quickly moved to calm Bieber down: “She kept her cool and was telling Justin to keep his, though it was a bit late for that.”
Right after the couple drove away, Gomez tweeted, “THANKS SO MUCH to my fans for always protecting me and being there for me. I can’t thank you guys enough. I’m sorry I had to rush out. Love you guys.”
†On a much lighter note about the Biebster, the pop superstar is making a big effort to become more mature when it comes to what he collects. He’s not giving up his extensive athletic shoe collection just yet, but I’ve learned that Bieber is actively learning as much as he can about the art world. He’s working with experts to advise him on modern art with plans to acquire important contemporary paintings, sculpture and collectible furniture for his new Los Angeles mansion.
One recent example: Bieber snapped up a $60,000 painting by important modern artist Holton Rower.
