She is not getting the claws out. Despite some prods from the media, Michelle Pfeiffer isn’t catty about Anne Hathaway playing the new Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises,” due in July.
“I’m a huge fan,” Pfeiffer told us Sunday. “Plus, I know the nature of all of these characters is that they’re played by different people all the time. ... I think Anne will be awesome.”
At that moment who should interrupt our interview but her “Dark Shadows” co-star Johnny Depp, who interjected, “I was actually thinking of throwing my name into the ring for Catwoman, but they got that Anne Hathaway, dammit. I’m upset.” With an eye roll, Pfeiffer said, “Thank you, Johnny.”
She reunites with her “Batman Returns” director, Tim Burton, in “Dark Shadows,” opening Friday. “I shamelessly called him and said, ‘Give me a job after 20 years.’ It was really horrible!”
The toughest part of playing the matriarch of the Collins family was navigating the expansive staircase.
“I had to walk down stairs in eight-inch platform shoes and I wasn’t able to look down,” she said. “I was told, ‘They did that in “Dynasty” and “Dallas.” ’
