The Chicago-born daughter of a jailed gang kingpin will be Stephen Colbert’s guest Wednesday on “The Colbert Report.”
Ameena Matthews, whose father is former Black P. Stones/El Rukn leader Jeff Fort, has dedicated her life to preventing crime in Chicago’s roughest neighborhoods as part of the CeaseFire Illinois violence prevention program.
Matthews plays a key part in “The Interrupters,” a critically acclaimed documentary from Chicago’s Kartemquin Films that highlights CeaseFire’s band of “violence interrupters.” Its U.S. television premiere is Feb. 14 on PBS’ program “Frontline.”
On Kartemquin’s website, Matthews said she’s “so excited” about appearing on Colbert’s Comedy Central program, adding, “I just hope I won’t need to kick his ass!”
