This searchable database has traffic stop information for 950 Illinois police agencies and is searchable by town or county. The data shows the number of stops made, the number of tickets issued and the percentage of those stopped who wound up getting tickets. Written or verbal warnings were not counted as citations. The data comes from 2008 Illinois state racial profiling traffic data released this summer.

Want to retire with a fat pension? Get a government job in Illinois. Nearly 4,000 retired government workers have pensions that pay them at least $100,000. More than half have collected more than $1 million each since they retired. It costs more than $800 million a month of governments to cover their pension burden, according to a first-of-its-kind Sun-Times analysis. See who's getting what. Data is divided in two parts. The first includes annual pensions for people paid from the 17 largest retirement plans for government workers in Chicago, Cook County and state of Illinois. The Census Bureau has released 2008 population estimates for cities, states and counties. In the latest figures, Chicago's population grew by more than 20,000, its second consecutive year of higher figures. Nine of the 10 largest cities in Illinois grew, with only Cicero losing residents. Nationally, New York saw the biggest jump in the number of residents, growing by more than 53,000.

2008 school report cards for all state schools
Each year, the State Board of Education releases school report cards for each
public school in the state. The 2008 report cards include student scores on
the Illinois Standards Achievement and Prairie State Achievement tests, and
ACTs, demographic information on students and teachers, and financial
information on school districts. Private and parochial schools do not take
state achievement tests.

The Census Bureau has released 2007 data on race, age and Hispanic origin for all 3,141 counties in the United States. Nearly one in every 10 of the nation's 3,141 counties are
"majority-minority" -- meaning the county had a population with more
than 50 percent minority residents as of July 2007, according to the
U.S. Census Bureau.
