There are now 65 individually numbered shacks here and in far-flung places including Champaign, Bloomingdale and Wicker Park. Founded at 47th and Greenwood in 1950 by the late Harold Pierce, who explained: "When I was a child, a preacher came to our house and ate all of our chicken. I told my mother then that when I got to be a big boy, I was going to open a chicken restaurant."
