The Picasso

The Picasso /thuh puh coss oh/ n. Not the artist, but his 50-foot steel sculpture in Daley Plaza that was widely scorned by the public when unveiled in 1967 but is now a Chicago icon. Some have guessed the sculpture -- named "Untitled" by Pablo Picasso -- is a horse, an Afghan hound or a Viking Ship. The artist's grandson in 2004 said he believes the sculpture's inspiration was Lydia Corbett, a long-necked, ponytailed model Picasso used in some 40 sculptures.
