/gren ri-ver/ n. 1. Syrupy green pop created in 1919 by the Schoenhofen Brewery at 18th and Canalport as an non-alcoholic alternative as Prohibition approached. The soda fountain favorite faded when booze flowed again legally, but has made a comeback. It's now made by the Clover Club Bottling Corp. on the West Side. 2. Creedence Clearwater Revival song about a California swimming hole -- but named for the lime-flavored green drink. 3. Washington state river where serial killer Gary Ridgway dumped dozens of his victims.
